    School Photo Contest Has Begun!

First of all, thank you from the bottom of my grundle to everyone who sent in their childhood photos! They are all AMAZICAL.

Okay, so we have a few different categories. First up, "Girls Who Look Like Boys." It appears that quite a few of us ladies went through a short hair phase before the hormones had set in. So it's quite difficult to distinguish if this short-haired child had a pee pee or a woo woo.

    1. What I love about this photo is that she's completely sure of herself. Amen! "Yeah sucka, you know you want some of this. Shiiiit, I'll tear your ass up. I got my swagger on." Love.

2.That smile could melt even my frozen heart. I love that in this photo she's not only rockin' the bowl cut, but she's also rockin' the long sleeved polo. I was OBSESSED with those striped long sleeved polo shirts, rugby shirts? I think that's what they were called. From Structure. Remember Structure? Oh, I loved me some Structure.

    3.

HHH, 2nd grade. I like that I'm over-compensating for my boy hair mullet with pink overalls and a velour sweater. It looks like I'm having an outer body experience.

The second category is, "Spokeswomen for the 70s and 80s"

1.What's awesome about this outfit is that hipsters in L.A. wear this exact combo - plaid shirt, matching bead necklace. This went out of style for 20 years, but now it's right back in. I also love the bangs. I too did much bang experimentation, usually resulting in a burnt forehead.

    2.

Move over Molly Ringwald! Your ass is about to get served! This. Is. Classic. I mean, I have so many favorite parts of this photo, but perhaps my ultimate fav is the side hair wings, concreted into place with hair spray. Oh, I know that look well, but was so jealous of girls who could pull it off! My fine, fairy dust hair could never hold such aerodynamic feats. Um, and the fringe shoulder pads? Uh-mazing. I smell future Homecoming Queen...

    3. That might be a ridiculously cute face, but 10 years after this shot was taken I could see her being very persuasive in having a few Zimas and bong rip. It's a good thing that this girl and I are on opposite sides of the continent or else there would be TROUBLE afoot. And it's damn lucky we didn't know each other in the 90s or else I'd remember even less of my teen years.

4.HHH in 3rd grade. I've grown out my mullet...kind of. I also apparently grew a giant clam shell on my forehead that I was claiming as bangs. My Mom calls this my, "Going to the convent" shot.

    And then there's category, "DUDE."

    1.

Ummmmmmmm, guess who??? Little Jon G. That's right, this is my man circa '79. As he says, "Like a good bottle of wine - only gets better with age." I particularly love the baby Jew fro paired with the sweet-ass glasses. I've seen that smirk a million times.

    2.

Anyone smell a ladies man? I feel like he's gonna bust out some Bridge Over Troubled Water at any minute and all the 8 year old girls are gonna throw their Strawberry Shortcake undies on him.  "Gosh ladies, I'm just a poet who the muse speaks through. Excuse me, I need to go play with  my robot now." SO CUTE.

    3.There. Are. No. Words.

And the final category is, "Category Adorable."

    1.Adorable.

    2.Adorable.

    3.

Adorable. And thank you for being my one black friend who participated. What up with that? Whities love ourselves some school photos or what?

4.Adorable. Recognize those cheeks? This is Mama HHH.

    4.

    Adorable.

Okay, in the comment section vote for your fav number in each category. Don't vote for me, incase you were tempted. I'm absolutely not worthy among these gems.

    Suh-weet!

    January 25, 2010 | Unregistered Commenterputweet

Jules: Sweet! And yeah, it was fantabulous! Thanks, Jules!

Michael/Michelle: No words right? The laser show in the background is so awesome.

    KM: Sweet, thanks KM!

Claire: Aww, I wish we had your pics too! Thanks for the vote though!

Putweet: You're absolutely right, they are all winners and the all deserve a letter!!!

    January 25, 2010 | Registered CommenterBuffy Charlet

In the Spokewoman category, I toooootally want to hang out with 3. She looks like she def knows where the parties at. These are awesome.

    January 25, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterJenny12

How are we supposed to decide?!?! Ridic! And I love Jon G.'s style. He's quite the fashionista!

    January 25, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterRonny

You know what's funny, I don't have any of my school photos (and I'm black). Maybe only white people save their school photos? Strange!

    January 25, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterJ

Jenny12: Right?! You know that girl grew up to be a beeeeeelast! I want to go on road trips with her. :)

Ronny: Oh I know, it's completely impossible to decide. Little Jon G was WAY too cute.

J: So weird! My Asian friends couldn't find their photos either. What up with this shiz?

    January 25, 2010 | Registered CommenterBuffy Charlet

I know! I'm sorry! I failed for Asians everywhere! Damn, my pics were pretty cute too. I just don't know where they are...poop. But that laser light show pic is just too good!

Man, all the Americans have those kick ass generic cloudy backgrounds. They used to just plonk us down in front of a solid sheet of paper and snap. Fuckers!

I vote for "Boys Who Look Like Girls" Number one, is ADORABLE. She really does look like a little boy and i sympathize because when I was 7 they cut off all my goddamn hair and I got "Son" every freaking day. Yourself and the other little girl are adorable as well though. Tomboys forever!

Spokeswoman: Number 1 looks like she gets shit done! Number 2 looks like the cute girl who buys eyeliner at 10, Number 3 is the coolest girl who ever lived in the history of girls (ahem) and number 4 is an awesome little wiseass comedian girl who makes me want to drink alcohol a lot.

All the dudes rock! Cute little Jon could be Micky Dolenz's long lost son, little blondy should be in movies and number 3 probably grew up to be Marilyn Manson or in the movie "Deliverance". :)

    Hee!

category 1--- #1 (are you sure it's a girl? It looks like a kid I played T-ball with)

Category 2--- #3 (hands down on this one. Are you kidding me? Those glasses are amazing)

    Category 3--- Tough one. Btw #1, #3 and #4. Shit, I guess I'll go with #1

    January 25, 2010 | Unregistered Commenterkneebucks

What do you mean, 'there are no words?'

    Um..hello?

'Kickin' Mullet' comes to mind there.

    January 25, 2010 | Unregistered Commentermoooooog35

In Girls That Look Like Boys, going to have to go with #2. It's the smile. Too cute. And in the Spokeswoman category, despite my fabulous gums - I'm going to have to go with #2. I think she may have been my babysitter. She's all about the aquanet and a blow dryer. Love it! In Dude, omg #3. He just needs a banjo and the image would be complete. And in Adorable - #3. It's the hip pop. Just awesome.

    January 25, 2010 | Unregistered Commentercolby

LOVE the pix! Here's my votes...1, 2, 1 and 1. Ummm, I hate to point this out but ummmm you have two number 4s in the last group.

    January 25, 2010 | Unregistered Commenterjd

This is too much fun! For GWLLB I like #1. She is the CUTEST boy ever, although it is almost a toss up with #2. In the Spokeswomen category # 1 gets my vote. I wish I had that shirt and beads (a little larger of course). For the Dudes I gotta go with #1 again. I know, he's your Dude, but he was an awfully cute boy. This was a really difficult choice cause all three dudes have their quite evident and very different charms. Under the Adorable umbrella, again very tough choice. Not to butter up HHH, but I gotta go with #4 Mama HHH. Adorable AND definately up to something. If I couldn't be her, I would want to be her best friend.

Girls who look like boys: #1. If not given the category I wouldn't know if it was a boy or a girl, and sadly I rocked that same hair cut.
70's & 80's: #2 that hair is awesome. And fringe! Not just any fringe but GOLD FRINGE, too awesome for words.
Dude: #3 because well, the lasers just sell it.
Adorable: #2 It's the Betty Crocker dress and Leave it To Beaver flippy hair, classic cute.

    January 25, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterToe
